Frankincense Tea
A traditional method that releases aromatic compounds and boswellic acids into warm water.
CLASSIC FRANKINCENSE TEA
Ingredients
- 3-5 small pieces of Hojari
- 1 cup hot water (~180°F)
- Honey to taste (optional)
Method
- Heat water to approximately 180°F (just below boiling).
- Place resin pieces in your cup.
- Pour hot water over the resin.
- Let steep for 10-15 minutes.
- Add honey if desired. Sip slowly.
Tip: The resin can be reused 2-3 times. Each steeping will be slightly milder.
Frankincense Water
A cold infusion method popular throughout Arabia. Refreshing and subtle.
OVERNIGHT FRANKINCENSE WATER
Ingredients
- 5-7 pieces of Hojari
- 2 cups room temp water
Method
- Place resin in a glass jar or pitcher.
- Add room temperature water.
- Cover and let sit overnight (8-12 hours).
- Water will turn slightly cloudy.
- Drink as-is or strain if preferred.
Tip: Same resin can be reused for 2-3 days. Traditionally consumed first thing in the morning.
Oral Health
Frankincense has been used for oral care for millennia.
FRANKINCENSE MOUTHWASH
Ingredients
- 8 grams Hojari
- 2 cups water
- 1 tsp sea salt
- 2 tsp baking soda
Method
- Bring water to a boil in a small pot.
- Add frankincense, reduce heat and simmer 5-10 min.
- Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.
- Stir in salt and baking soda until dissolved.
- Strain through fine mesh into glass container.
Usage: Swish for 30-60 seconds, then spit. Do not swallow. Store refrigerated up to 2 weeks.
TRADITIONAL CHEWING
What You Need
- 1 small, clean piece of Hojari
Method
- Select a small, clean piece of resin.
- Place in your mouth and let it soften (1-2 min).
- Chew slowly like gum.
- Enjoy for 10-15 minutes for fresh breath.

BURNING WITH CHARCOAL
What You Need
- Heat-safe incense burner or censer
- Sand or ash (about 1 inch deep)
- Charcoal tablet (quick-lite or coconut)
- Lighter or matches
- Metal tongs
- 1-3 small pieces of Hojari
Step-by-Step
- Fill your burner with 1 inch of sand or ash for heat insulation.
- Hold charcoal tablet with tongs (never fingers).
- Light the edge of the charcoal with a lighter — it will spark and crackle.
- Place charcoal on the sand, spark-side up.
- Wait 2-3 minutes until charcoal is covered in gray ash and glowing red.
- Place 1-2 small pieces of Hojari directly on the charcoal.
- Resin will begin to melt and release fragrant white smoke.
- Add more resin as needed — a little goes a long way.
Safety: Never leave burning charcoal unattended. Use in well-ventilated area. Keep away from flammable materials. Burner will be extremely hot.
BURNING WITH ELECTRIC BURNER
What You Need
- Electric incense/resin burner
- 2-4 small pieces of Hojari
Step-by-Step
- Place electric burner on a heat-safe surface.
- Add 2-3 small pieces of Hojari to the heating plate.
- Turn burner to lowest setting (~200°F) to start.
- Wait 3-5 minutes for resin to warm and soften.
- Increase temperature gradually for stronger fragrance.
- Resin will melt slowly without burning — less smoke, more aroma.
- Add more resin as fragrance fades.
Ideal for: Daily use, offices, bedrooms, meditation spaces. Produces gentle fragrance without heavy smoke.
Skincare
Frankincense contains boswellic acids with anti-inflammatory and skin-rejuvenating properties.
FRANKINCENSE FACE OIL
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp Hojari (ground)
- 1 cup carrier oil (jojoba or sweet almond)
Equipment
- Mortar and pestle (or spice grinder)
- Glass mason jar with lid
- Cheesecloth or fine strainer
- Dark glass dropper bottle
Step-by-Step
- Freeze resin for 1-2 hours (makes grinding easier).
- Grind frozen resin to a fine powder.
- Add powder to glass jar and cover with carrier oil.
- Seal jar tightly and store in a warm, sunny spot.
- Shake jar daily for 3-4 weeks.
- Strain oil through cheesecloth into clean container.
- Transfer to dark glass dropper bottle for storage.
Usage: Apply 2-3 drops to clean skin at night. Always patch test before first use. Store away from sunlight — keeps up to one year.
